Week 9 Recap - Global Carnival Celebration
Week 9 of our Summer Camp has concluded at the Boys & Girls Club of Vista. Here’s the highlights of everything our Club kids did!
On Monday, for Art, our Club kids made clay figures of objects such as a mushroom, a soccer player, and a duck. In the STEM room, Ian gave everyone Jenga blocks, magnet tiles, and Legos to make their own versions of Carnival floats. Our Teens went to Boomers to play miniature golf on King Arthur’s Royal Course and Pirate’s Cove.
On Tuesday, Club kids K - 5th went to the Icetown ice-skating rink to learn how to ice skate. While some kids skated around the rink freely, some held onto their friends or other staff members while gaining more confidence in their ice skating. For Art, Miss True gave everyone acrylic paints to add color to their clay figures. Later in the day, a few of the Teens got to learn the Rasputin dance from Just Dance in the Art Room.
For their final Career Launch field trip of the summer, the Teens visited the City of Vista. The Club kids got to participate in a Q&A session where they learned about all the different departments at the City from Public Works to Community Development and more. After the field trip, our friends at Chick-fil-A Vista Village sponsored our Teens’ lunch to enjoy while relaxing in Brengle Terrace Park. At the Boys & Girls Club, for STEM, the kids got to make their own lightshow by taping colored plastic wrap onto flashlights. In the Art Room, everyone joined in to sing Taylor Swift’s song “You Belong with Me” on karaoke.
The next day, Ian taught the Club kids what happens when you add vinegar to baking soda by making a baking soda volcano that bubbles out rainbow-colored “lava.” Afterward, Mr. Carlo pulled up the Olympic 2024 Men’s Basketball semifinals USA vs. Serbia on the projector for the Club kids and staff members to cheer on Team US. Our Kinder – 5th graders went to Bowlero to learn how to bowl. They managed to knock a few pins down and one of our staff, Miss Liz, got a strike.
For the last day of Summer Camp, the Teens went to Knott’s Berry Farm to enjoy rides like the Silver Bullet and the Sierra Sidewinder. They also walked around the world of the reimagined Camp Snoopy.
Summer Camp 2024 has officially concluded! Our Club members got to enjoy exciting experiences like visiting Belmont Park, find their love for science, express themselves through art, and explore potential career paths. Although Summer Camp has ended, there are lots of opportunities for Club kids to learn and grow here at the Club during our Afterschool Programming.
