State of the Club
The Boys & Girls Club of Vista has been driven by our founding principle to inspire and enable kids that need us the most…and no more immediate need would be to serve kids from essential care worker families. We are a resilient organization that showed we had the quick ability to scan the cards we’ve been dealt and improvise to survive these unexpected shocks. Boys & Girls Clubs tagline the past few years has been Whatever It Takes, and this past year, we truly lived it.
While our total Club membership dropped from 1188 Club members to 995, we became a community hub with Vista Unified providing meals and homework packets to families back in March-April. We provided over 7,000 free hot dinners to families from Chef Bruno. We were able to accommodate every needy Club member with an Adopt a Family or every Club member received holiday gifts galore thanks to a more than generous community. Board members stepped up to offer free groceries and gift cards to local restaurants to 20 Club families. 60% of our Club members received financial assistance in 2020 during these historic times.
On May 4th, we became the first Boys & Girls Club in San Diego County to open to provide emergency day camps for essential worker families. We are now open to all families and providing extended learning day camps from 7am-6:30pm providing access to adequate and flexible resources as well as afterschool programs when schools are open. We upgraded our technology so all Club members could easily connect to their teacher’s classrooms throughout the day. Our All in For Kids campaign easily surpassed its end of year goal of raising $100,000 for Vista children.
Please save the date for March 6th, 2021 for our Diamond Gala. This event helps us support more families and inspire more great futures.
