1st Annual Back to School Bash and Community Resource Fair

Vista, CA - On Saturday, August 26th, Boys & Girls Club of Vista held their First Annual Back to School Bash and Community Resource Fair. The event took place at the California Avenue location and served as a much-needed resource for families and kids as they started the new school year.

“As an organization serving youth, we wanted to host an event that would get kids excited for the new school year with resources to help support their learning and self-confidence along with valuable resources for their families. The goal was to serve 200 school age children” said Nicole Ketcher, Vice President of Development “we far exceeded that serving over 315 kids from our community which speaks volumes to the growing needs of our youth and just goes to show what we can do when we all come together to serve. Vista businesses, community members and supporters really showed up to make this all possible.”

The organization was able to provide 315 backpacks filled with school supplies and hygiene to every child! Additionally, 60 youth received new haircuts compliments of Sports Clips Vista and 450 individuals received a hot lunch sponsored by 180 Faith Ministries. The front parking lot of the Boys and Girls Club of Vista was filled with 18 vendors providing resources for access to food, SDGE savings, family literacy, workforce development, early childhood and more. Family fun activities included games, arts and crafts, face painting, balloon animals, cotton candy, music and even a taco truck.

“This is just a real testimony about how much the community cares about kids and providing an equitable education and opportunities so all kids can thrive in school and at the Boys & Girls Club during out of school hours and school breaks” added Matt Koumaras, President & CEO.

The Club is thankful for all its sponsors (Blue Shield Promise Health Plan, Watkins Wellness, 180 Faith Ministries, Mariners Church and Target), donors and over 40 volunteers who made this event such a huge success. Great Futures Start Here!
